I will be getting a puppy next week or so ( don’t worry i have owned them all my life) but i will be going to school for another three or four months. How do I make it love me more when I get home from school? I already will walk/feed/love it, but my mother will do that, too sometimes. Are there some things i can do that will make it LOVE me?
My mother has her dogs this one is mine, im not taking it away from her!

It would probably be best for it to bond with your mother more, as this will be her dog most of it’s life. When you move off to college, get really busy with school activities, dating, working, etc, you won’t have time for the dog.

The puppy will love you, too. The puppy should love everybody. Don’t worry about it.

I got a dog when I was ten, and it was supposed to be like just MINE, but it indeed loves my mother more.
I didnt do anything to her that would make her not like me, its just a dominence thing. The dog wants to stick with the leader.
So try to spend as much time as you can with it. Theres not much else you can do.

My dog was with me 24/7 before I got my job. He was mine alone for a year.
And when my husband came home from work, the dog was right there in his lap for an hour just saying hi and getting his hugs.
Dont sound so selfish. It’s a puppy. There’s enough love to go around.

There’s nothing you can do, just be happy you have a sweet puppy that loves everyone and enjoy the puppy when you are with him/her.

This almost happened to me too!! I got a sheltie puppy for my christmas present and my mom fell in love with it! I got the puppy to love me by feeding it all the time. This way, it associates you with feeding and want snuggle with you. Also, make sure that you spend a lot time with it during the day playing, cuddling, etc. When you go to school, maybe leave something with the puppy that has your smell on it, old shirt, sock?? When you get back from school, your puppy will be so excited to see you!!!

Is it fair to either your mom or the dog to have your mother take care of your dog?
Will you eventually be moving out and taking the dog away? If so, you should wait until the dog will bond to you, not spend all of its time with your mom and bond with her.

Puppies base what they know about their family, things like who they like best in the very first days of being with its new family. Be sure to hold stroke and kiss your dog as much as possible those first quiet days. Give him treats and snuggle with it so that it knows your scent. Make sure that your the one giving it food while your home so that it knows that your its main source of food. Make sure that you don’t reprimand it and that when its with you, its favorite things start to happen like a favorite game or treat. Buy a special kind of food that it only gets when you are home. Bond, bond, bond! That it how you build a strong relationship with your dog. Determine what your puppies favorite toy is and spray it with your perfume, wash it in your clothing detergent or just hold it until it smells like you so it will recognize its favorite toy and its mommy as two good things. It will start to associate you with good things and lots of fun and treats. Do not work to be the one it loves most though, this is about you and your puppy creating a loving relationship, not about you being the best. Love it as it grows, the time just flies out the window.

You can’t make your puppy love you best. And, I agree, it isn’t something that you should worry about. However, if you are the person who feeds your puppy, grooms it, takes it for walks, plays with it, and trains it, you’ll forge a strong bond with your dog. Be the source of food, entertainment, training, and exercise, and your puppy will love you. Maybe the puppy could sleep in your room at night (in a crate at first!). Act as though your puppy is the most special dog in the world, and your puppy will think you are special, too!
